Often we get alarmed after looking at our red-eyed images. Do not be afraid, your mind is not playing any tricks on you. It is just the magic of optics. You may not face the same problem while making a corporate video but when taking pictures you will find some people with red or orange eyes. You just cannot help but laugh while looking at such snaps. Video production is too advanced to eliminate any such errors however; the old cameras never had this feature. While going through childhood photos, one feels spooked as the eyes look eerie. But the question is why pictures had this phenomenon especially when they were captured at night?

The answer relies in the human retina. So you have to look into a human eye to get the answer. What happens is when the flash of a camera reflects from your eyes at just the right angle to be captured by the camera then you get a red-eye. You will find that humans are a little alone in this red-eye image phenomenon.

For instance, when you take a picture of your dog, cat or any other animal, you will get a totally different thing. You will feel a white shiny spot in the place of their irises. The reason for this is a reflective layer present over their retina. This layer known as tapetum lucidum works like a mirror. Try focusing a headlight or perhaps a flashlight on their eyes. What do you observe? Their eyes will reflect white light as a whole which is why they appear as a bright spots.

The layer present over the human retina is different from the one present in animals. In humans the presence of red spots in images shows a different thing. As we all know, white light has seven component parts. Alternatively, seven colors are part of the visible spectrum. The human retina is capable of absorbing all those light except for one. When a surface cannot absorb a particular color, the other option is to reflect it back. So mainly, the human retina reflects red light which is captured by the camera.

However, it is worth noticing that you would not see any reflection when you shine a flashlight on a human eye. But you will get a certain reflection when you focus a camera flash. Some people think the red color is due to the presence of blood vessels. This explanation is totally vague, because animals also have blood vessels so potentially, they should have the same effect.

The red-eye effect in images was a problem of the earlier decade. But things have changed now. With sophisticated technology at your doorstep, you can use the technique of red-eye reduction for good.

Apart from this, good camera using skills can also help minimize the effect. It is observed that moving the camera flash away can help in minimizing red-eyed images. Some cameras have flashes that are only a single inch away from the lens. If possible try to remove the flash from the camera. You can keep it at a distant place instead. A light bouncing off the ceiling will never cause this problem. As mentioned earlier the red-eyed effect is mainly because of reflection from the retina.

These days, many people are considering investing in the right art for either office or home. Investing in these artworks offer potentially high returns. It is highly suggested that you add your ownership to the art, so that you can enjoy it while you wait for the returns. Like any type of business, supply and demand directly have an effect on the prices. Other aspects include the condition of artwork, rarity, aesthetic values, and validity. It is imperative that one has a basic education of paintings, as this would help him or her make a better and wiser choice when it comes to artwork investment. There are various ways for you to start investing in a painting. You can visit galleries that sell genuine and original artwork. Some of them offer limited editions of artworks.

There are art galleries, museums, auction houses, and even the Internet that have a wide range of great paintings. In addition, you can easily find canvases that sell, instead of ones that do not. If you are not sure which type of art to invest in, it is best that you educate yourself about it first. You can find books and magazines on the world of artworks.

Great books and magazines as such can be found in libraries and bookstores. Make sure you check for them in the arts and crafts section. You will find plenty of high-end and good quality books with information on various canvases all over the world. You can find newsworthy features, items, and background information that enable you to spot styles, fashions, and it is also a way for you to comprehend how the art world works.

Now that you have some knowledge on how to buy a painting, you can begin your search for it in galleries or museums. Before you buy the artwork, it is imperative that you research on the type of painting, the painter, the authenticity of the artworks, and the average prices. Set aside a budget to invest in these prints. Keep in mind that prices go up and down in this field of investments. Avoid buying them prior to a change in trends or during peak session, as this normally means a poor investment on your side.

The best piece of advice any investor could give you is perhaps to invest in an artwork that you enjoy looking at. Find out what appeals to you to conclude if the painting might appeal to other people. Make sure you keep the original frames along with the documentations of any painting that you invest in. You should replace a missing frame in accordance to its period.

When you have found the right artworks to invest in, you should insure them with the help of your insurance agent. He or she should know a few things about art investments and consider hiring a professional lawyer, if your existing lawyer does not know how to handle it.

Ensure that the contracts are signed by you and the artist or seller. It is advisable for both parties to include a couple of witnesses. If you feel that you want the paintings to be placed in your house, make sure they are delivered on time.

David Tatham, fine art dealer for over quarter of a century, has an extensive knowledge of Lowry’s life and work. Signed, limited editions and originals can be viewed and purchased from the website. http://www.lowry.co.uk

When you are looking at buying a new camera there are a lot of tech specs and other information you need to sift through just to get to the bottom of which one is best for you. To cut down on the amount of sifting you need to do, however, you can decide which type of camera you want ahead of time. There are many differences between a Nikon digital SLR camera and a Nikon compact digital camera. Which would be best for you?

First, you need to look at the differences. The main difference is that a Nikon compact digital camera is easier to use for the casual photographer. If you are looking to take pictures at birthday parties and just document vacations and other kinds of memory capturing, this might be the camera for you. When you look into the viewfinder of a Nikon compact digital camera all of the technical parts of picture taken are done automatically. With a Nikon digital SLR camera, however, you need to worry about aperture, shutter lag, and ISO range. For those who are looking to create more artistic works of photography, this kind of camera is sure to be a pleasure to use. This, again, is for more accomplished photographers but can also be used as a training camera for yourself if you would like to learn more about the art of photography.

Of course there are the general dissimilarities like size and weight. A lot of the smaller cameras these days are small enough to slip into your pocket. This makes them more portable and easier to keep track of than their larger cousins. Though it is true, however, that the larger cameras can take higher quality photos (just ask the sports and concert photographers) than the smaller cameras. This is mostly because you can manually adjust to whatever conditions you are in. It’s also a result of the fact that SLR cameras are crammed full of more features than the smaller compacts. That’s not to say that you can’t take good photographs with a compact camera! It all depends on what you want to use the camera for.

For some the SLR is an overwhelming piece of equipment and they would be happier with a small point and shoot camera. For others, an SLR is how they make their art and capture their memories. Which one is right for you?

The Camera Box sells refurbished Nikon cameras and refurbished Canon cameras for great prices. If you’re looking for discount Canon digital cameras or the best Nikon cameras, the Camera Box can help.

Art usually takes many forms. It can be in the form of paintings, the way people dress, the way people decorate their homes, prints and how someone will express themselves. All these things help to build up the entire concept. It takes a keen eye to notice something good. The way people express and interpret it is different therefore this brings about the beauty and uniqueness. Throughout history, this has been one platform that people have been able to invest in. There are very many portraits and paintings that people were able to acquire a long time ago and that are highly valued at present. Their value keeps appreciating and therefore it would be a good idea to invest in this type of work.

Most of the pieces are usually auctioned during art exhibitions. Some of the highest prices can go in excess of a hundred million dollars. Some of them are painted and sold for a certain charitable event so that money is acquired to fund them. There are very many exhibitions that are usually staged in order to help bring art awareness and to showcase the work of a budding artist or one who has been in this trade for a long period of time.

Certain investors have specialized in this line. They usually acquire and collect different kinds of art. They will hold them for the longest period possible and later exhibit them. The pieces can go for a enormous price after this publicity because many buyers prefer unique pieces that are antique and that have not been seen in the market of late. One is usually not sure how much the pieces will go for because the prices are usually very unstable. It would be wrong to say that the markets in this field are anything close to predictable.

When it comes to paintings, there are different types of ways that they can be categorized as. First of all, the time period that it was made will help to characterize it. The style in which they were made, the person who made it and the kind of message that they were trying to portray is also vital.

There are different media with which they can be used when coming up with a piece. The three different types will involve water color, acrylics and oil. The style that you use will depend on the three of them. They could be expressed in abstract form which will include lines, color and dots that are not easy identifiable. On the other hand, they can be in real life forms.

Signed limited editions are often very sought after by many people. They will include a famous signature from the person who made the piece itself. They have particular collectability because they have a form of authenticity and are limited to the output. It is a means of the artist checking the quality of the reproduction and authenticating it.

Prints and paintings usually represent art in its best form and shape. People should consider it as a new investment venture. If not, they should have it as decorative work in their home or work place.

David Tatham, fine art dealer for more than 25 years, has an extensive knowledge of Fine Art by the modern British artist. Signed, limited editions and paintings can be seen and purchased from the website. http://www.cornwater.com

If you want to maintain and take good care of your photos, make sure to manage and label your photos using the appropriate equipment, manage them sparingly and in the appropriate way, be extra careful with old photographs, use the proper storage equipment, and prevent the pictures against damaging factors

If you want to maintain and take good care of your photos, make sure to manage and label your photos using the appropriate equipment, manage them sparingly and in the appropriate way, be extra careful with old photographs, use the proper storage equipment, and prevent the pictures against damaging factors.

Images are among the best ways to preserve personal experiences. But wait , how are how certain that an image stays intact as well as in good shape for years to come? It is a great way to invest in high quality protective equipment including plastic sleeves, but even that might not be adequate. Here are some ways you can follow to maintain and take care of your own images:

Arrange and make effort to label your images using the proper materials

To assist in arranging your own pictures, you need to label the back portion of the photograph. It is specifically critical that you select the right writing material to label the photos. Ballpoint pens aren’t recommended as the ink on these types of instruments may easily leak into the surface or even the point could potentially cause dents on the surface of the paper. You need to select a long lasting marker instead but ensure that you wait until the ink on the paper has dried before you begin putting the photos. Compose a description containing who’s in the photograph, the date and place it was captured, what was occurring when it was taken and all other specifics you believe might help those who might be watching at the photograph in the future.

Deal with these items moderately and also in the correct manner

You will need to manage your own photos sparingly. When you manage them, be sure that you do not touch the graphic area. Fingertips may leave oil behind and this in turn might cause mold spores and dirt to accumulate. Try on some mild cotton safety gloves when you make use of your own pics to ensure you avoid direct exposure to the images.

You should be very watchful with old pictures

You have to be especially careful when looking old, heavy pics as these could easily break. All photographs may become structurally fragile over the years especially with unequal support. To avoid damaging older images, it is advisable to provide them with enough support when you take them out.

Use the correct storage materials

You should be careful in deciding on what type of storage devices you use for your personal pictures. Most of the people opt for magnetic picture albums, but these are in fact harmful for images. The card board used for fabricating this type of album and the adhesive on the pages are both acidic and therefore harmful. Widely used things like staples, rubber bands, paper clips, tape and glue may damage, stain and also dent the photograph paper therefore these should also be prevented. If you utilize wood items for your own photos, ensure that they’re properly labeled as acid-free. An excellent option for storage space is plastic material sleeves that are totally free of Pvc material. You might use air-tight sandwich bags as a more affordable option.

Avoid exposing the photographs to harmful elements

The three things which are generally most damaging to photographic supplies are humidity, light, and temperature. Store the pictures in a an area which you yourself find comfy. Avoid basements, storage ares, or spaces where the humidity and temperature change constantly.

Even though preserving and taking care of pics can seem like a tedious task, you will eventually recognize that going that extra mile is worth it.

Is it a paint Or is it a crayon

Is it a paint? Or is it a crayon? It’s tricky to say with pastels because they have qualities of both. One thing is for sure; the finished product when working with pastels can be every bit as impressive as an oil paint, with a mixture of brush blending and fine, intricate drawing giving the work a range of textures and tones that any artist could wish for.

It’s actually quite difficult to define what a pastel is because it shares characteristics with several other media, but it is generally accepted that the pastel is dry when applied, even though it can sometimes resemble a very thick (almost solid) liquid. Pastels were actually known to Leonardo da Vinci in the 15th century, so if they haven’t been specifically defined after half a millennium, it’s fair to assume they never will be.

Like solid paints, pastels are simply a pigment and something to gel it all together, known as a binder. The binder itself is neutral in colour to give purity to the hue. When you’re buying pastels from an art supplies store, make sure you know which type you want, and there is a wide range of materials, hardnesses and physical constructions.

The most common type of pastel comes in a stick form. It looks rather like a stick of chalk or a crayon, wrapped in paper which you tear away as the pastel stick is used up. They are also available encased in wood like a pencil, and indeed they are used just like pencils.

Also like pencil leads, pastels can be hard, soft or somewhere in between. Hard pastels are good for drawing fine detail and outlines but the colour is less vivid than that of soft pastels as the ratio of binder to pigment is higher. Soft pastels have less binder in them and so the pigments come through more, making richer tones. The softness makes the drawing seem powdery, too. This has advantages (it’s easier to blend and mix, and can produce pleasant graded finishes) and disadvantages (it’s easy to smear accidentally and the dust can be messy, and extensive inhalation should be avoided). It’s therefore important to choose the correct type for the job. You’ll probably find yourself using both types anyway, even on one picture.

Finally there’s the material the pastel is made from. The traditional form is oil-based. They are soft to the touch and have a smooth, shiny, slightly tacky surface. Blending takes a fair amount of skill with oil-based pastels, but it can be learnt. The other type is water soluble. After applying to the paper, a water wash can spread the pigment thinly and create an effect like a watercolour painting.

Painters in pastel might not get the recognition of their paint-spattered contemporaries, but there are plenty of notable pastel artists throughout history whose work any aspiring pastel painter should make themselves familiar with. Maurice Quentin de la Tour (1704-1788) was a hugely adept portrait artist who worked mainly in pastels. Other influential pastel artists include Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901), Edgar Degas (1834-1917), Edouard Manet (1832-1883) and Mary Stevenson Cassatt (1844-1926).

Author Bio: When Sally paints or creates other art works she likes to use every material possible, not all at the same time of course. She favours watercolours and pastels, particularly oil pastels but also has a fondness for pencils and acrylic paint.

Photography is not only a form of art, but also a hobby where you can capture scenic attractions and precious moments along with friends, family, colleagues and loved ones.

Due to the significance of these photographs, it is vital for you to store and preserve them in the proper and correct manner to avoid damage and deterioration caused by external factors, such as moisture, acids, sun, too much heat, dust and many more.

Old and new photographs can be stored and preserved even for years with the right techniques and skills. To learn photograph preservation techniques, read and follow the tips mentioned below.

One does not need to become a professional photographer or artist to learn how to take care and to protect photos from damage. Even ordinary individuals like you can do the job efficiently and effectively.

Due to the short life span that we have, not all of us can reach and met our great, great-grandchildren. We cannot share to them our genealogy or our family tree. With photography and with proper care of photographs, you can change things. With your creative ability, techniques and technological innovations, you can save and protect even vintage photographs from damage, letting you preserve family photos for the next generations to see and to enjoy.

Improper storage of photographs, exposure to dust, pests, moisture, sun and high temperature could result to unavoidable damage in photographs.

With the evolving technology that we have, even damaged and vintage photos can be restored to look like new.

There are many ways of storing and preserving your photographs, all you need is to choose which one suits your needs.

Different ways of storing and preserving your photographs:

Acid-free albums
Acid-free scrap books
Acid-free photograph boxes
3-ring binder
Steps in protecting your photographs:

When handling or holding a photograph, you should wear cotton gloves or linen because the oil and acid can damage the photos.

Place them in acid-free and airtight archival container and store them in dry and cool place. Avoid placing them in the basement or basement due to risk of flooding.

As soon as you develop your photographs, make sure to have back up copy and only display the duplicate photo. In case of damage, you can still restore the damaged photographs with the help of specialist.

Make sure to note the individuals found in the photographs, including first names, maiden names and family name so you can easily trace back your family tree.

You can also store photos in multi-pocketed album pages made from Mylar, polypropylene and not non-archival PVC plastics.

You can protect and save photographs by placing them in scrap books. Through it, you can journalize and write notes on them. The finished scrapbook can either be enclosed in photograph frames or in acid-free sleeves. When attaching photographs on scrap books, avoid using glue, rubber cement or tape because it can lead to deterioration and fading. Make sure to use acid-free pens and ink in scrapbooking to avoid damage in photographs.

Author Bio: Richard C. Mckeown enjoys writing for Greatpictureframes.com which sells picture frame and vintage picture frame as well as a host of additional products.

You might have invested thousands of dollars to buy one of most beautiful oil painting you might have ever seen However, later than investing your hard earned money it is vital to be familiar with how to preserve it correctly until you are all set to exhibit it for all to see

You might have invested thousands of dollars to buy one of most beautiful oil painting you might have ever seen. However, later than investing your hard earned money it is vital to be familiar with how to preserve it correctly until you are all set to exhibit it for all to see. As soon as you are done with this article, you might be enlightened on several aspects of preserving canvas oil paintings. Nevertheless, your asset will last for several years to come and this beautiful piece of art will be enjoyed even by your generations to come. Therefore, go through this article and ensure you are familiar with how to look after and preserve your magnificent piece of art perfectly.

To start with, you should ensure that you have a wooden picture frame to preserve your canvas in, despite the fact that you do not plan to exhibit it in the frame. If the painting is of smaller size and is economically viable to frame, you must do so, because like this, your painting will not rest on the base and the ends will not bend and the paint will not break off. Another important thing that you should buy to preserve your canvas painting is padding, mostly made out of polystyrene – a type of plastic form of foam, which is also the best one available in the market. It prevents canvas oil paintings from getting scratched and in addition prevents dust from accumulating on the painting and prevents painting from getting dull.

It is essential to preserve canvas oil paintings in a dark, dry, and cool atmosphere. In addition, the place where you preserve your painting should be free of insects because they will simply eat away the canvas painting and its frame and add to it their droppings are acidic and will completely ruin the painting. Typically, an area that has a steady level of humidity and does not change fast between temperatures is finest. Remember do not spray the area where you preserve your canvas painting with an insecticide, as this can spoil your investment forever. Insecticides have chemicals that can dissolve paint and can cause harm to the canvas itself.

As a final point, maintain your paintings standing upright. In addition, ensure that the place you choose has nothing close to it that can damage the painting or leave deep impression on it. Canvas oil paintings are in fact wonderful additions to any home decor and the best way to preserve your painting and to exhibit it is by hanging it on the wall. These are crafted so as to be displayed and enjoyed by all. However, make certain you display it in an area which is away from direct sunlight in order that it does not become dull. Preserving your painting in a cool and dry place will help it to last for several years to come.

There are several places from where you can buy a canvas painting to liven up your home, one of these is internet. Nowadays there are several online modern art vendors online that offer cheap canvas painting at very affordable rates.
