What xD Card Users Need to Know

Wednesday, March 21st, 2012

Buying the right digital camera is a personal dilemma especially when there are so many good brands to choose from. The model and specs also add to the problem as everyone seems fine and exceeds one another. But if there is one thing not to be left unconsidered in your purchase of a digital camera or even digital voice recorder, it is the memory storage medium, often in memory card format. There are a lots of brands competing to complement digital devices from cameras to cellphones to music players, but the question often lie not on the brand but on the type of card to buy. Which one is a dead end?

xD card, a type of memory card specifically made for picture storage may have been an advantageous choice for tech savvies but that is only until the manufacturing came to a complete halt. Its counterparts, the SD and SDHC continues to gain support from electronic giants which is the opposite for xD. Exclusively manufactured by Samsung Electronics and Toshiba Corporation for Olympus and Fujifilm, this card has reached its end that as of 2010, this model is already considered an obsolete. It was also announced by the original clients that no cameras using this type of memory card will be produced any longer. Is this the end for those with existing camera models relying to such flash memory card?

Fortunately, you can still use your camera a little longer. Although the manufacturing companies have already announced this model is now phased out, you can still purchase it from the brands that originally included it on their packages. Olympus xD cards for instance are still available on most stores across the country. However, as early as 2008, the availability of memory capacity of this picture card has already been pinned to a mere 1 GB and 2 GB.

Using your Olympus xD cards alongside other electronic devices such as computers should not be a problem. Although card reader models are now moving away from the xD card format, there are still some multicard readers that can cater to your needs. If you have a spare money now, better buy an alternative one as you may find yourself running to stores without a successful purchase in the near future. The availability of both card and card reader are predicted to be stable within the next few years, given that the sale statistics for this model will not change. Theoretically speaking, consumers with existing xD-Picture card using-devices may cram and save some for themselves. There is no chance of reproduction in the near future as well.

With the picture quality this flash memory card could offer, why did it come to its end then? One main reason is the exclusive distribution that only caters to two brands. Most of the top-selling brands use SD cards as well which makes it impractical to use a different model for the smaller brands. The capacity is also not that impressive especially that they are used to store photos with large file sizes.

Whether some consumers deem it as a loss, manufacturers will not resume and client electronic brands have already started making SD enabled products. So if you are a user, better start buying reserves or get a new camera instead.

Camera – For Making Your Special Moments Unforgettable

Sunday, February 26th, 2012

Camera is one of the most exciting and amazing inventions of modern science. It is a device which records images on paper or on the film. These images may be referred as still photographs or motion images which are often referred as videos or movies.

The word is derived from the Latin word ‘Camera Obscura’ which means ‘dark room’ which was an initial mechanism for projecting images. These are meant to work with the visible or with the electromagnetic spectrums of light. This word was used by Johannes Kepler who was a German astronomer early in the seventeenth century.

This fabulous thing consists of an enclosed hollow with an opening at the other end for allowing the light to enter along with a viewing or recording surface for catching the light from the other end.Camera works on the principle of the law of the optics that is light travels in a straight line and does not scatter but cross and appear on flat surface as an upside down image.

The very first machine of this type was invented by the Chinese philosopher Mo-Ti during fifth century. He made a note of an inverted image that was produced by the light rays, when this light was allowed to pass through the pin hole into a darkened chamber. The darkened chamber was named as ‘collecting place’ or ‘treasure room’ by Mo-Ti.

The quality of the images of the camera was not so good up to sixteenth century but with the introduction of convex lens into the aperture, the quality of the image was improved.

The modern day camera makes use of glass lenses for focusing and capturing light within a flash and facilitating us to magnify these images. The images so produced exhibit each and every detail as compare to the initial films. These also have digital sensors which could be sometimes replacing the film. Most of the modern type exhibits shutters for restricting the light from reaching the film or sensor just by clicking a button. They also exhibit a very intense flash for getting the brighter images and to capture every detail of the picture.

Digital Cameras are one of the most advanced types which are very compact, slim, sleek and can be carried quite easily during the outings. Most of the digital camera manufacturing brands offer an array and are packed with the latest technologies for getting the most real images. The quality of the images taken by this excellent device is distinguished by the resolution of pixels of the camera and image sensors.

They are available in small and large sizes but the one with cheaper rate or pocket size don’t have much features as compare to the larger one, but these are very convenient to handle or to carry.Despite of their sizes most of the cameras deliver high quality images.

Most of the leading brands such as Nikon, Bushnell, Oympus and Casio offer the digital cameras that exhibit technological innovations. You can find one of the most appropriate types of camera from the leading brands according to your choice and preference.

If we talk about the size then they are available in various sizes right from the miniatures to the size of a credit card with the distinctive featured SLR systems. The leading brands of the market include Canon, Olympus, Nikon, Fuji, Kodak, Olympus and the list goes on.They are continuously under development and keep on evolving continuously which results in to the addition of more features. The new cameras are with high megapixels, improved lenses, features and software.

The digital cameras are mainly associated with a range of advantages. The first and the foremost thing is that they do not involve any film processing. If you are an amateur photographer then for catching great pictures you should go for digital cameras. You should consider the megapixels of the camera you are going for.The quality of the image is related with the megapixels, higher the megapixels, better the quality of your image. For your casual photographing, 4 to 6 megapixel will do the job for you.

The zooms are available in two type viz.the optical and digital zoom.Optical zoom makes use of several lenses to get the closer snaps whereas the digital zoom only allows you to make the image bigger.Making the image bigger will result into deterioration of the quality of the image.

You would certainly annoyed with the situation when you are about to catch the most beautiful or exciting moment and the camera runs out of the battery. There is nothing more annoying than this situation which restricts you from taking the snaps. Most of the cameras make use of AA or AAA rechargeable batteries, and you should always keep a set of battery with you, if you are out for photo shooting. You should know about the time of the battery for which it will help you, so that you can plan for your further shots.

These days, lithium batteries are most popularly used and they are lot more expensive as compare to general batteries.Their cost is compensated by the power and the life span. But this is recommended that if you are out for taking some snaps you should keep an extra set of batteries so that even batteries could not stop you from taking the best from you.

What Is The Difference Between A Digital Camera And A Digital SLR Camera?

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

by Michael Arendt

Olympus DSLR Set

In this article we hope to be able to explain the difference between a normal digital camera and a digital SLR camera. When choosing and purchasing a new digital camera, there are some important elements of photography that you need to familiarize yourself with.

girl in viewfinder

To get us started “SLR” stands for Single Lens Reflex. Essentially this means that the lens can be removed and replaced whenever required. A regular SLR camera is a conventional film based SLR camera whilst a digital SLR (DSLR) is a digital SLR camera. DSLR or SLR cameras compared to a normal fixed lens digital camera, are far more complex to use, as certain features and settings within the camera have to be manually changed – such as focus, shutter speed and zoom. These are aspects of a digital camera that most people take as a given, as they are automatically set within the camera. These days, for your benefit, most DSLRs have some pre-set automatic functions – this being the functionality of digital cameras! Along with this, a DSLR can have the lens removed and replaced, meaning that the photographer can take extremely close up images of tremendously high quality.

The reason why DSLRs are so frequently preferred by professional photographers is because they allow an accurate preview of framing at the moment of exposure, and because DSLRs allow the user to choose from a huge variety of alternate lenses. This gives you the best possible choice of photographic effects and quality of exposure. You can get lenses such as wide angle lens, telephoto lens and macro lenses. DSLR cameras offer a level of flexibility that other types of cameras cannot match, they have such a huge array of add ons and accessories. For DSLRs you can buy things like filters, external flashes, adapters, extension tubes, light strobes and a multitude of brackets and attachments. With a DSLR, you can also purchase a large array of tools which opens the possibility of new creative possibilities. Most DSLRs also have a function that allows accurate preview of depth of field.

Lego Camera

Perhaps the most important core component of any digital camera or DSLR is the sensor. This really is the most critical device in the camera and is perhaps the most important in determining the picture quality. Typically on a DSLR the sensor is far larger than those installed on a fixed focal length or digicam type camera. Most of the time fixed focal length cameras have a sensor just a half or one third the size of a DSLR. This in itself is reason enough to get a DSLR over a normal digital camera. The vastly superior picture quality makes it an essential part of any serious photographers arsenal.

A DSLR camera can offer you the ability to become a very skilled photographer, producing some high quality photographs. When you visit a professional camera store they will assist you in making your choice between a digital camera and a digital SLR camera.
